About the artist
Ingrid Dorcak
PhDr. Ingrid Dorčáková, PhD., M.A.

Ingrid Dorčáková is a Slovak visual artist (born 1978) whose work represents a fascinating dialogue between the rational world and untamed intuition. Although she has a successful academic and professional career in economics and management—including a PhD from the University of Economics in Bratislava and a Master of Arts (M.A.) in the creative industry from Apsley Business School in London—her lifelong passion remains visual art and design.
As an artist, she has developed her skills through independent study. Thanks to this authentic approach, she has built a distinct and unmistakable artistic language, free from strict academic templates. She successfully launched her artistic career with exhibitions in her hometown of Prešov and in Bratislava, instantly captivating the audience and establishing a solid presence on the art scene. Today, her artworks are also part of the permanent collection at the Shanghai Art Collection Museum.
Creative Philosophy: The Power of Intuition and Travel
“My love for art was born in childhood. I have always been fascinated by colors, shapes, and design.”
In recent years, Ingrid has gravitated primarily toward abstract art. Abstraction provides her with absolute freedom to express fleeting emotions and deep thoughts without the constraints of form. Her greatest source of inspiration is travel, exploring new cultures, and the atmosphere of undiscovered places. She subsequently transfers these visual and emotional impressions from the world onto the canvas.
Every single artwork is a unique story that does not follow a strict plan, but emerges completely spontaneously in the process of creation.
Technique and Signature: A Touch of Elegance
Ingrid enjoys experimenting and pushing the boundaries of materials. In her works, she combines various techniques and tools – from classic brushstrokes and textured layers applied with a palette knife to unconventional materials.
An inseparable part and signature element of her paintings is gold paint. For the artist, it symbolizes:
Perspective over everyday life
Elegance that brightens up any interior
Depth that makes the viewer contemplate
Gold pigments bring an exceptional radiance to each painting, which changes depending on the angle of light. As a result, the artwork literally "comes alive" within the space.
